Nice to *see* you again! I've been ...Hi Corey!
Nice to *see* you again! I've been caught in this same conundrum many times. I'm not sure my method is best but it seemed to work for me. While transcribing I only keep the umms and ahhs that contribute to the essence of the interviewees message. I do not include them if I consider them to be simply conversational patterns. Of course this is all highly subjective. I didn't want the interviewee to be distracted and embarrassed by all the "likes" or "you knows" so I usually did not included them. I did however include "gee, not sure, well, ummm" because it reflected a thought pause or uncertainty which was important to my interpretation. Not sure that helps or not! It's painstakingly slow no matter how you do it. But persevere! Interview data is rich and helps you get to those big ideas! :-) Cheers!Charmainehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04329993410549653917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5704915439456287692.post-66271265095242473912009-12-09T10:45:28.123-08:002009-12-09T10:45:28.123-08:00Hi Corey,

I used to have a cat that had a fetish for bright shiny things and would often hide my watch...I can clearly picture you hunting for yours! I found your comment about how blogging and RSS had "shifted spaces" for you really interesting. It has only been in the last few weeks of this course, that the same has happened for me. I hope that you will continue to keep blogging after this course is done, as I'm sure you will attract quite a responsive readership.Jackiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11279243984649870026noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5704915439456287692.post-28532648831089788382009-12-02T16:59:58.552-08:002009-12-02T16:59:58.552-08:00You have such a great way of pulling our learning ...You have such a great way of pulling our learning together into an analogy. I know how easy it is for a comment to be made without first thinking about it, and my concern is that students will 'tweet' without stopping to consider carefully what they want to say in such a concise amount of characters, and then be able to retract it, or explain further.

I also think that twitter is mainly going to be used for my own personal use and in professional development applications.Jackiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11279243984649870026noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5704915439456287692.post-45871639681127606932009-11-22T21:30:56.548-08:002009-11-22T21:30:56.548-08:00Twinegar, that is creative. I found it really interesting that you prefer print material on websites, when they are designed to 'attract' our attention with the 'bells & whistles'. I am the opposite way now, and I have to wonder if it's because I grew up without tv, and really like the 'novelty' that these new tools still bring to my life. I also drive long distances regularly (10 hour stretches) and have found that books on CD are the only things that can keep me occupied and alert for that length of time....I can only listen to my ipod for so many hours and then I'm tired of my music no matter how often I change the playlist.
